Surface engineering and application of magnetic particles(2)

       2013海峡两岸功能材料科技与产业峰会——Surface engineering is a powerful method to prepare functional materials of a wide range of important applications, such as catalysts, sorbets, sensors, tags, drug delivers, magnetic fluids, magnetic imaging, separation and enrichment of metals or toxic components, to name a few. Combined with magnetic properties of particles, a variety of unique functional materials has been derived. Various surface engineering methods (including vapour deposition, dipping coating, sol gel coating, self -assembling, chemisorption, surface reaction/polymerization) and surface characterization techniques will be presented. Examples of engineering functional magnetic particles and composites by self-assembling for cell separation, silica -coating for surface hybridization, silanation of silica -coated magnetic particles for metal recovery, chemical grafting to make interfacial active magnetic particles for oil-water separation and magnetic composite particles for mercury emission control, illustrating power and versatility of surface engineering magnetic particles.
