Two modes for dune orientation
The Eighth International Conference on Aeolian Research(ICAR VIII)——Sediment availability controls dune orientation.There are two different dune growth mechanisms,that may be recognized in field: the bed instability mode and the fingering mode.Many terrestrial dunes are aligned with the mean sand transport direction.These dunes are in the fingering mode,which suggests that they extend away from geomorphologic sand sources.
